Streaking Magic host Rockets in central Florida
Jan 7, 2011 - 4:29 PM (Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic will try to close out a perfect four-game homestand tonight versus the Houston Rockets at Amway Center. The Magic have won seven straight overall and improved to 3-0 on the residency with a 97-87 triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. Dwight Howard posted 28 points and 13 rebounds for an Orlando squad that owns a 14-5 record as the host this season. The Magic have won five straight at Amway Center.
Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson added 13 points apiece, while Brandon Bass, Jameer Nelson and J.J. Redick each scored 10 points in a winning cause.
"We just want to get wins. We're learning about ourselves," Richardson said.
After hosting the Rockets, Orlando will embark on a five-game road trip through Dallas, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Minnesota and Boston. The Magic have won each of their last seven games by a margin of at least eight points.
Houston will try to put the clamps on a three-game losing streak tonight and is coming off Wednesday's 103-100 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at the Toyota Center.
Kevin Martin scored a game-high 45 points, Shane Battier added 13 points and Luis Scola grabbed 12 rebounds with a career-high three blocks and six points for the Rockets, who have lost four of five games since a five-game winning streak.
"Disappointing loss for us," Martin said after Houston blew a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter. "Down by eight at the half, up by 13 in the fourth, we blew it."
Martin set the Rockets Toyota Center record in scoring. The Rockets have dropped two straight on the road and are 6-13 as the visitor this season.
Orlando swept a home-and-home series with Houston a year ago after the Rockets took both meetings in the 2008-09 campaign. The Rockets are 12-4 in the previous 16 meetings with the Magic, losers in seven of the past eight contests as the host in this series.
