Wizards try again for road win at Charlotte

Jan 8, 2011 - 4:00 PM (Sports Network) - The road-exhausted Washington Wizards will take another crack at winning away from home for the first time this season when they pay a visit to the Charlotte Bobcats tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Washington is 0-17 as the guest in 2010-11 and its winless road record to start the season is the worst since Chicago began the 2001-02 campaign with 18 straight losses. The Wizards have dropped 18 straight contests in enemy arenas dating back to last season.

The Wizards were able to end a three-game slide with Friday's 97-77 home win over the New Jersey Nets at the Verizon Center, as newcomer Rashard Lewis provided 16 points, 13 rebounds and six assists to lead the way. Nick Young added 16 points and JaVale McGee pumped in 15 points, seven boards and six blocked shots for the Wizards, who won for the third time in 16 tries.

"It was nice that we came out and shared the ball...Rashard had a great game. He did a lot of good things for us," Wizards head coach Flip Saunders said.

Wizards rookie John Wall had five points and nine assists in the win, and entered the game averaging 16.0 points and 10.0 assists in his previous four outings. Washington forward Josh Howard missed the game with a sore left knee and may not play again tonight against the Bobcats.

Charlotte will begin a three-game homestand Saturday versus the Wizards, Grizzlies and Bulls, and is 8-9 at Time Warner Cable Arena this season.

The Bobcats ended a two-game slide and won for the third time in five tries with Wednesday's 108-105 overtime victory at Minnesota, as D.J. Augustin scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the way and help Charlotte end a nine-game road losing streak.

Tyrus Thomas added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Charlotte, which got 16 points and seven assists from Boris Diaw.

"They came back and battled, but we held on," Bobcats head coach Paul Silas said. "It was such a great win."

The Bobcats were without guard Stephen Jackson (right knee), forward Gerald Wallace (ankle) and center Nazr Mohammed (right knee). Jackson and Mohammed are questionable and Wallace is listed as doubtful for tonight.

Charlotte and Washington have beaten each other once already this season, with both games played in the nation's capital. The Bobcats took all four meetings from the Wizards a season ago and is 9-2 in the previous 11 matchups between the two clubs.

The Wizards are winless in their last four games at the Bobcats.
