Jackson's return lifts Charlotte over Washington

Jan 9, 2011 - 7:45 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson returned from a one-game absence and scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half, lifting Charlotte to a 104-89 win over Washington, keeping the Wizards winless on the road.

Jackson, who sat out a three-point overtime win at Minnesota on Wednesday, also had 10 rebounds and five assists. D.J. Augustin added 20 points and nine assists for the Bobcats, who got revenge for a 108-75 thrashing at the hands of the Wizards in the nation's capital on December 20. Gerald Henderson tallied 19 points and nine boards.

"That's big, the deeper we are the more threats we have, the better we are on offense," Jackson said of the contributions of Augustin and Henderson. "If those guys stay aggressive we're going to be hard to stop."

John Wall netted 16 points and 11 assists for Washington, which fell to 0-18 as the away team. They're still far from reaching the NBA mark for most road defeats to start a season. That record is held by the Dallas Mavericks, who lost 29 straight such games during the 1992-93 season. Kirk Hinrich had 18 points for the Wizards, who have dropped 19 straight contests in enemy arenas dating back to last season.

Al Thornton's layup with 2 1/2 minutes left in the third had the Wizards up 71-70, but everything fell apart for the visitors over the next 5 1/2 minutes of game time. The Bobcats scored the final seven points of the quarter and expanded their lead to 86-73 following a pair of buckets by Shaun Livingston, the latter one coming on a layup with 9:46 left in the game.

JaVale McGee's jumper with barely under nine minutes left was Washington's second field goal since Thornton gave the visitors the lead. Hinrich's layup had the Wizards within 86-77 with 7 1/2 minutes left, but the Bobcats didn't allow Washington to get any closer.

In fact, the Bobcats countered with a 9-1 burst, capped by Augustin's three- point play with just over four minutes remaining.

Augustin had 10 points in the opening quarter, helping Charlotte to a 26-20 lead after 12 minutes. The hosts carried a 49-46 lead into the half and pushed the advantage to as many as 12 in the third. However, the Wizards responded with a 11-0 run to even the game at 66-all on Andray Blatche's jumper with 5:19 left in the period.
