Bulls host division-rival Pistons

Jan 10, 2011 - 3:50 PM (Sports Network) - Chicago Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer said after Friday's loss in Philadelphia the team has to fix some issues on defense. Boozer and the Bulls did that in a big win over Boston and now have their sights set on taking out the Detroit Pistons tonight at the United Center.

The Central Division-leading Bulls opened a short homestand with Saturday's 90-79 victory over the Celtics, as All-Star guard Derrick Rose pumped in 36 points to help his team end a two-game winless drought and bounce back from a tough loss to the 76ers. Boozer added 22 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double in 11 games for Chicago, winners of six straight at home.

"From the start of the game to the end of the game he was aggressive," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said of Rose. "When he plays like that, because he is generating speed, if there is contact, he will get more calls. He was taking the contact on tonight and he was getting calls."

Rose set career highs for free throws made and attempted with a 15-for-19 clip from the charity stripe. Ronnie Brewer contributed 10 points off the bench for the Bulls, who have won 15 of 19 games and improved to 16-3 in the Windy City.

Chicago finished with a 48-27 advantage on the boards. After hosting the Pistons in the Second City, the Bulls will play three of their next four games on the road, starting with back-to-back games in Charlotte and Indiana.

Unlike the Bulls, Detroit was able to solve Philadelphia and recorded a 112-109 overtime victory Saturday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Austin Daye tied the game with a three-pointer late in regulation and buried another big shot early on in overtime, as the Pistons ended a three-game losing streak to win for the just the second time in seven tries. Tayshaun Prince scored 23 points and Rodney Stuckey chipped in 20 in the win.

"I thought Austin played with a lot of poise," Pistons coach John Kuester said on NBA.com. "A lot of it deals with the momentum of the game, and who has their legs in the flow of the game, and that's why we stayed with those guys down the stretch."

Daye netted 15 points and Greg Monroe finished with a career-best 16 points with 13 rebounds in a winning effort. Detroit outscored the Sixers, 13-10, in the extra session and is 4-2 on overtime games this season. It will try to work on its paltry 3-16 mark as the guest tonight.

Chicago has beaten the Pistons twice already this season, including a 95-92 triumph in overtime at The Palace on Dec. 26. Boozer had 31 points and 11 rebounds in that one for the Bulls, who have won nine straight and 14 of the previous 16 matchups with their Central Division rivals.

Detroit has lost nine in a row after winning its last 12 at the United Center.
