Grizzlies end trek in Detroit
Jan 12, 2011 - 4:34 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies will close out a three-game road trip tonight against the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.Memphis has dropped the first two tests of the swing, including Monday's 96-82 loss in Charlotte. Zach Randolph, who earlier in the day was named Western Conference player of the week, finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have lost two in a row since a three-game winning streak.
"We were down eight in the third quarter and down 11 at the start of the fourth," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. "We didn't have enough guys that were making shots that could help us win the game."
Rudy Gay, Tony Allen and Mike Conley each scored 13 points, while Marc Gasol added 10 points and seven rebounds in defeat. The Grizzlies are 6-15 outside of FedEx Forum this season and have lost four of seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Pistons have lost six of their last eight games and suffered a 95-82 loss in Chicago on Monday.
Tayshaun Prince led the Pistons with 15 points and Austin Daye contributed 14 points in a reserve role for Detroit, which got 10 points and 11 rebounds from rookie Greg Monroe.
"We gave them too many easy opportunities," Pistons head coach John Kuester said. "They capitalized on everything."
Rodney Stuckey and Chris Wilcox finished with 11 and 13 points, respectively, in the loss. The Pistons are now back at home where they have won two straight and are 9-8 this season.
In injury news for Detroit, center Ben Wallace is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game with a balky left ankle.
Memphis recorded a 105-84 win over Detroit on Nov. 24 this season at FedEx Forum and has won three of the last four meetings between the teams. The Grizzlies, however, have lost 10 of the 14 encounters at The Palace.
