Spurs go for 16th straight home win vs. Raptors

Jan 19, 2011 - 4:22 PM (Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs will shoot for their 16th consecutive win in the Alamo City Wednesday night when they resume a four-game homestand by welcoming the reeling Toronto Raptors to the AT&T Center.

The Spurs improved to 2-0 on their current residency Sunday when Tony Parker scored 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting, and Manu Ginobili netted 18 in addition to handing out seven assists, as San Antonio rolled to a sixth straight win overall with a 110-97 victory over the Denver Nuggets.

San Antonio hit 11-of-22 from three-point range and connected on 14 straight field goals during a game-altering second quarter that helped turn a 12-point deficit into a 12-point halftime lead.

Tim Duncan pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and added nine points for the Spurs, while Gary Neal and fellow reserve George Hill each added 14 points.

"We had a really poor first quarter and a really good second quarter. Tony and Manu had a lot to do with that," said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

San Antonio, which will finish its residency against New York on Friday, is in the midst of its longest home winning streak since a 16-game spurt from Dec. 11, 2004-Feb. 23, 2005. Meanwhile, the club is on pace to finish with a franchise record 70 wins if the second half of its season matches its first (35-6).

The Spurs haven't lost at the AT&T Center since a 103-94 setback to Southwest Division-rival Dallas way back on Nov. 26.

The Raptors fell to 0-2 on a five-game road trip in New Orleans on Monday when David West came up huge down the stretch and finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, as the Hornets held on to edge Toronto, 85-81.

DeMar DeRozan led a balanced attack with 23 points for the Raptors, who dropped their fourth game in a row as they continue to deal with a host of injuries. Rookie Ed Davis chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds in a reserve role, while Julian Wright and Andrea Bargnani each had 11 points in defeat.

"We did the best we could to mix it up defensively, play some zone and man-to- man, try to keep them off balance a little bit, but in the end, they just hammered us on the boards," Toronto head coach Jay Triano said.

Key contributors Leandro Barbosa (hamstring), Jerryd Bayless (ankle) and Linas Kleiza (sore right knee) all sat in New Orleans. Bayless could return tonight, however.

Toronto, which is just 5-16 on the road, will also make stops in Orlando and Miami on its current trek.

The Spurs are 20-9 all-time versus the Raptors and have won nine of the last 11 matchups in the Alamo City.
