Streaking Hornets visit Warriors

Jan 26, 2011 - 4:37 PM (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Hornets will take their nine-game winning streak to the road when they begin a three-game western road trip tonight against the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena.

The Hornets will also visit the Kings and Suns on the trek and are 11-11 away from the Big Easy this season. They are coming off Monday's exciting 91-89 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, as David West buried the game-winning shot with five-tenths of a second remaining to keep New Orleans rolling.

West had 20 points and Chris Paul finished with 24 and nine assists for New Orleans, which has won 14 of 18 games and got 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks from Emeka Okafor in the win.

"We started off the game in a fashion that we didn't like," Hornets coach Monty Williams said. "We were giving up easy baskets, giving up threes, but we just felt like if we got a few stops it would change the way they played the game."

New Orleans has won four in a row on the road and hasn't won 10 straight overall since the 1997-98 campaign.

Golden State has lost two in a row since a four-game winning streak and will continue an eight-game homestand Wednesday night.

The Warriors opened the residency with a 113-102 loss versus San Antonio, as David Lee led all scorers with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Monta Ellis posted 25 points and Dorell Wright added 18 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Warriors, who are in the midst of playing 13 of 14 games in Oakland.

"I thought we could've contested their shots a little bit more," said Golden State head coach Keith Smart. "But those guys are never in a hurry, so they're very patient and they know how to engage a help defender just enough to get a guy open and they know where everybody is going to be at all times."

Smart's club will also host Charlotte, Utah, Milwaukee, Chicago, Phoenix and Denver on the residency, and is 13-8 at home this season. Warriors guard Stephen Curry is questionable for tonight with a sprained right ankle and posted 14 points against the Spurs.

Golden State defeated New Orleans, 110-103, on Jan. 5 this season in the Big Easy, but the Hornets have won six of the last 10 meetings between the teams.
