Hornets sting Warriors, win 10th straight
Jan 27, 2011 - 7:52 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - David West's 22 points led a balanced attack in New Orleans' 112-103 victory over Golden State at ORACLE Arena.Trevor Ariza notched 19 points and seven rebounds, while Chris Paul scored 18 and dished out 17 assists for the Hornets, who have won 10 straight games. The last time the franchise won 10 straight overall was during the 1997-98 campaign.
Emeka Okafor and Marco Belinelli had 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the victors.
Monta Ellis recorded 26 points and five assists and Dorell Wright notched 25 points for the Warriors, who have lost three in the row. Stephen Curry posted 20 points and six assists and David Lee added 16 points and 10 boards.
"They came out ready to play and they out worked us in the first quarter," Wright said. "I think they started out 14 of 18 and you are not going to win games when a team is shooting like that. We were careless with the ball and missed some key shots. But, they are a good team and there is a reason they in the midst of 10-game winning streak."
The Hornets shot 65.2 percent during the first quarter to jump out to a 34-21 lead. They ended the night hitting a season-high 62.2 percent of their shots en route to a season-high 112 points.
"That's what really set the tone of the game," Paul said of the first quarter. "I tried to be as aggressive as possible."
Golden State was able to cut the lead down to three with 6:33 left to play in the opening half from Wright's drive and finger roll. But New Orleans built back a sizable lead and took 61-49 edge at halftime.
The visitors' edge was cut to four in the third quarter thanks to an 8-0 Warriors' run capped by Curry's long two-pointer with 8:35 remaining to make it 65-61. Yet again, the Hornets grew the lead to a comfortable 17 points, 93-76, heading into the final frame.
New Orleans cruised in the fourth quarter with the margin dipping under double digits with only 12 ticks left.
Game Notes
The Hornets improved to 12-11 away from the Big Easy this season...New Orleans made a season-high 46 field goals...Golden State will continue an eight-game homestand with a Friday matchup against Charlotte...The Hornets will travel to Sacramento on Saturday then Phoenix on Sunday to round a out a three-game western road trip.
