Bulls entertain Bobcats in Windy City

Feb 15, 2011 - 3:54 PM (Sports Network) - The Central Division-leading Chicago Bulls are back in the Windy City after their western road trip and will entertain the Charlotte Bobcats tonight from the United Center.

The Bulls went 3-2 on the trek and have won two in a row, including Saturday's 97-88 victory in New Orleans behind 23 points from Derrick Rose. Carlos Boozer scored 17 points and Luol Deng added 14 in a winning effort. Rose is the only player in the NBA who is averaging at least 24.0 ppg and 8.0 apg this season.

"Third quarter we sort of fought our way back, got within striking distance," said Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau. "Then, our bench was very, very good. They were active, I thought the rebounding was excellent. And we finished the game strong."

Chicago made 51.5 percent of its shots and held a 47-26 rebounding advantage. It will also host San Antonio and owns a 23-4 record at home this season. The Bulls are unbeaten in their last five games in the Second City. Chicago's 36-16 record is its best start to a season since the 1997-98 squad began the year with a 37-15 mark.

Bulls forward Kurt Thomas is expected to compete in his 1,000th NBA game and will become the 12th active player with that many games played.

The Bobcats have won two in a row and three of five games, including an impressive 109-89 drubbing of the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.

Gerald Wallace had 20 points and 11 assists for his fifth double-double in eight games, Gerald Henderson netted 18 points off the bench and Boris Diaw posted 16 for Charlotte, which improved to 8-5 all-time against the Lakers.

Lakers star Kobe Bryant was held to 20 points.

"Even though they're bigger than us, we're quicker and more athletic than them," Wallace said. "We were able to control Kobe for most of the game."

Nazr Mohammed had 16 points in a reserve role and Stephen Jackson posted just nine for Charlotte. The Bobcats will try to work on their 10-17 record as the guest tonight and are 15-12 under head coach Paul Silas after going 9-19 over the season's first 28 games with Larry Brown patrolling the sidelines.

Charlotte has beaten Chicago twice already this season, but has lost nine of the 12 meetings at the United Center.
