Mavs, Warriors collide in Oakland
Mar 16, 2011 - 3:00 PM (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks hope to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak Wednesday when they finish up a brief two-game road trip in Oakland against the Golden State Warriors. The Mavs dropped the opener of their quick trek in Portland on Tuesday when Brandon Roy made a key jumper with 47.8 seconds remaining, as the Trail Blazers snuck past Dallas, 104-101, in a possible first round playoff preview.
Dirk Nowitzki played through a left shoulder injury to record 28 points and 11 boards for the Mavericks, who are just 2-4 since an eight-game winning streak and have fallen one-half game behind the LA Lakers for the second spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.
Shawn Marion and Rodrigue Beaubois chipped in 18 and 16 points, respectively, for Dallas. Jason Terry added 14 points off the bench in defeat.
"[Portland] got 18 more shots up than we did because we struggled to finish off possessions," Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle said.
The Warriors, meanwhile, are coming off a 129-119 loss at Sacramento on Monday. Marcus Thornton poured in a career-best 42 points in that one for the Kings.
Al Thornton led Golden State with 23 points off the bench, while Stephen Curry scored 19 points, including five treys, and Dorrell Wright totaled 18 points. Vladimir Radmanovic posted 16 points for the Warriors, who saw their two-game winning streak come to an end.
"You need energy and effort if you want to win," said Golden State head coach Keith Smart. "The two go together, if you just have one you're going to fail."
The Mavs have won four straight over the Warriors, including a 105-100 win in Big D back on Dec. 7.
