Stumbling Knicks welcome Grizzlies to MSG

Mar 17, 2011 - 2:43 PM (Sports Network) - The slumping New York Knicks hope to put the brakes on a three-game losing streak when they welcome the Memphis Grizzlies to Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks fell again on Tuesday in Indianapolis when Danny Granger answered Carmelo Anthony's game-tying bucket with the winning jumper just before the buzzer, giving the Pacers a dramatic 119-117 win to sweep a home-and-home series New York.

A game that featured 10 lead changes and nine ties in the fourth quarter was appropriately decided in the final seconds. Anthony took Granger off the dribble along the left baseline and went in for an easy lay-in to tie things, 117-117, with 7.8 seconds to go.

"Danny came out at me a little bit flat-footed and I took advantage of that and went to the hole," recalled Anthony.

Granger, who sat out Sunday's win over New York with the flu, responded by getting space on Shawne Williams and nailing a 17-footer on the right side with three-tenths of a second showing.

"I held it as long as I thought I could and I got a good look," Granger said. "My main priority was to get the last shot."

He essentially did, as a lob pass at the rim went for naught for the Knicks, who have lost the three straight following a three-game winning streak.

Anthony tallied 29 points and nine rebounds, and Amare Stoudemire totaled 21 and 10 in defeat. New York is now in a virtual tie with Philadelphia for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

The Grizzlies, meanwhile, snapped a two-game skid on Monday when Zach Randolph led the way with 30 points and 12 rebounds, as Memphis handled the Los Angeles Clippers, 105-82, at FedEx Forum.

Sam Young and Mike Conley netted 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Grizzlies, who recovered from a 118-85 drubbing at the hands of Miami on Saturday and have won three of five overall.

Darrell Arthur chipped in with 12 points off the bench for the Grizzlies, who continue to hold down the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference playoff race, 1 1/2 games ahead of Utah. Greivis Vasquez added a career-high 11 points in a reserve role.

"This was a big game for us because we wanted to throw that last game behind us," said Arthur. "We didn't want to linger on it too long. The thing about the NBA is you always have another game."

The Knicks snapped a two-game skid to the Grizzlies with a 110-108 win in Memphis on March 9, the team's last win before their current skid. Anthony buried a 19-foot jumper over Tony Allen with 0.5 seconds left in that one to give New York the victory.
