Warriors entertain woeful Wizards

Mar 27, 2011 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors hope to build on one of the most impressive offensive performances of the season Sunday when they welcome the woeful Washington Wizards to Oakland.

Monta Ellis scored 27 points and led seven Golden State players in double figures on Friday in a 138-100 rout of the Toronto Raptors. Everything seemed to be falling for the Warriors in that one. They scored 45 in the opening quarter, set an NBA season-high with 84 points in the first half and ended the game shooting 61.4 percent to snap a six-game slide.

Dorell Wright tallied 26 points, Stephen Curry 23 and David Lee 21, including the first made three-pointer of his career.

"I wanted to send a message to our team that we are building," Warriors head coach Keith Smart said. "This is a process. The way we have always done it at this time of year, to sit back and not play, you've got your better players on your team who want to play and will play, and that's a good thing."

The Wizards fell to an NBA-worst 1-34 on the road Friday when starters Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari and reserves Chris Andersen and Al Harrington each scored 17 points, leading the Denver Nuggets to a 114-94 victory over Washington.

Jordan Crawford scored 19 points to lead the hapless Wizards, who have dropped three in a row and nine of their last 10 overall.

"I thought we took a step back, we weren't communicating enough," Washington head coach Flip Saunders said. "We were competing, but we were competing on the second half. We were reacting instead of being more aggressive."

The Wizards swept the home-and-home series with the Warriors in 2009-10 and Golden State will be trying to return the favor this season after topping Washington in the nation's capital back on March 2.

The Wizards, meanwhile, are trying to avoid finishing the season 1-40 away from home, something only the 1990-91 Sacramento Kings have done.
