Young, Nets down Sixers
Mar 15, 2015 - 5:39 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Thaddeus Young had 21 points and nine rebounds against his former team and the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 94-87 on Saturday night.Joe Johnson netted 15 points and Jarrett Jack added 12 points and eight assists for the Nets, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
"It's hard to win in this league and hard to win on the road. And the way we've been struggling, it's a big win," Nets coach Lionel Hollins said.
Nerlens Noel posted 17 points and seven boards and Isaiah Cannon supplied 13 points for Philadelphia, which shot just 37.2 percent from the floor.
"They're a prideful team, a veteran team, a well-coached team and we just weren't able to find a way to close the game out," Sixers coach Brett Brown said.
The Sixers trailed 79-68 at the 8:57 mark of the fourth before storming back with a 17-8 run. Noel scored the final seven points of the surge, which was capped when he threw down an alley-oop to trim the gap to 87-85 with 3:36 left.
Brooklyn, though, netted the next six points to regain control
Deron Williams nailed a pull-up jumper, Brook Lopez sunk a pair of free throws and Young flipped in a hook shot to stake the Nets to a 93-85 cushion with 1:19 remaining.
Philadelphia never got within less than six the rest of the way.
Earlier, the Sixers led 29-27 following a quarter of play and 56-51 at the break.
Brooklyn closed the third on a 10-2 swing and took a 74-66 spread into the final frame.
Game Notes
Young played in Philadelphia for six seasons from 2007-08 to 2013-14 ... Thomas Robinson snatched 12 rebounds for the Sixers ... Brooklyn shot 44 percent (37-of-84) from the floor, but were just 2-of-17 from beyond the arc.
