Cal State-Northridge holds off Bakersfield 81-74

Dec 1, 2009 - 5:51 AM NORTHRIDGE, Calif.(AP) -- Vinnie McGhee scored 19 points off the bench as Cal State-Northridge won its home opener by fighting off Cal State-Bakersfield 81-74 Monday night.

Lenny Daniel had a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Matadors (3-3). Kenny Daniels scored 16 points, and Raymond Cody had 10.

The Roadrunners (1-3) got 26 points from Donavan Bragg, who hit 4 3-pointers. Stephon Carter had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Trent Blakley scored 14 points and Bryan Emanuel 11, and Santown Latunde pulled down 10 rebounds.

Cal State-Bakersfield led for the last time 64-62 when Emanuel sank a layup with 6:37 left.

But McGhee responded with a 3-pointer 41 seconds later to put Northridge ahead 65-64, and the Matadors held on. McGhee, a redshirt sophomore, hit 7 of 11 shots, including 3 3-pointers.

The game had seven ties and eight lead changes.
