Top-ranked UCLA meets Michigan State in CBE Classic final

Nov 20, 2007 - 2:41 PM No. 11 Michigan St (3-0) at No. 1 UCLA (4-0) 10:00 pm EST

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Top-ranked UCLA tries to win a preseason tournament title when it faces No. 11 Michigan State in the final of the CBE Classic on Tuesday.

Freshman sensation Kevin Love scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as UCLA advanced to the final with a 71-59 victory over Maryland on Monday. Love, who is widely considered the top freshman in the country, is averaging 20.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in his first four games.

Love has helped shoulder the offensive load as the Bruins have been without Darren Collison. The Bruins' starting point guard hasn't played since spraining his left knee in a preseason game against Azusa Pacific on November 2. Without their junior ball-handler, UCLA committed 14 turnovers - 12 in the first half.

Michigan State narrowly advanced to the final, edging Missouri, 86-83, on Monday night. Drew Neitzel scored 21 points and hit two free throws with less than three seconds remaining to cement the victory for the Spartans.

While Neitzel sealed the win for Michigan State, sophomore Raymar Morgan scored 19 points and has led his team on the offensive end this season. Morgan is averaging 19.0 points and 14.5 rebounds this season.
