Marshall, Georgia beat Belmont in opening round
Mar 17, 2007 - 10:19 PM MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Christy Marshall scored 11 points and Ashley Houts added 10 and six assists as third-seeded Georgia coasted to a 53-36 victory over 14th-seeded Belmont in the first round of the Dallas Region of the NCAA Tournament.Despite shooting just 31 percent (11-of-35) from the field in the first half, the Lady Bulldogs opened a 30-18 advantage.
The Bruins closed to 34-29 with 14:45 remaining as Alysha Clark netted six points during an 11-4 surge.
But Georgia (26-6) responded with a 12-2 burst to regain control for good, advancing to Monday's second-round matchup against sixth-seeded Iowa State.
Clark had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Tereva Moore scored 10 for Belmont (25-7), which shot a lackluster 20 percent (11-of-54)and committed 22 turnovers.
