Duke tops Georgia Tech, advances to ACC title game

Mar 5, 2011 - 10:40 PM Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Karima Christmas scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds, as the eighth-ranked Duke Blue Devils held off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 74-66, in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

Jasmine Thomas and Chelsea Gray added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Blue Devils (28-3), who will play in the ACC Championship game for the fourth straight year.

Duke will play North Carolina in the championship game.

Metra Walthour finished with 20 points for the Yellow Jackets (23-10), who have lost 33 in a row against Duke.

Tyaunna Marshall donated 19 points for Georgia Tech, which got 12 points and 11 boards from Alex Montgomery.

Holding a 25-21 lead with 6:11 left in the first half, the Blue Devils ripped off nine straight points to create some distance. Richa Jackson capped the run with a jumper to make it a 34-21 game with 4:10 remaining.

Duke shot 68.2 percent from the field in the first half to take a 39-29 margin into the locker room.

The Yellow Jackets made a bit of a run late in the second half, as Walthour's two free throws cut the deficit to 70-66 with 1:20 to play. Duke, though, scored the final four points of the game to seal the win.
