Resurgent Bills look to move over .500 against Dolphins
Nov 11, 2007 - 11:53 AM Buffalo (4-4) at Miami (0-8) Sunday 1:00 pm ESTMIAMI (Ticker) -- Making the playoffs may still be a long shot, but the Buffalo Bills have reason to be optimistic as they begin the second half of the season.
The Bills look to move over .500 on Sunday, when they visit the winless Miami Dolphins in an AFC East battle.
After a 1-4 start that included crushing one-point losses to the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo has reeled off three straight victories.
Last week, the Bills rallied in the fourth quarter for a 33-21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals to end the first half at 4-4.
Buffalo's season got off to a devastating start as reserve tight end Kevin Everett suffered a life-threatening neck injury in the opener against Denver attempting to make a tackle on the second-half kickoff.
"Really, I've never been through a first half of a season like this one," Bills coach Dick Jauron said. "I really like these guys and the way they respond, how they pull together."
Buffalo begins the second half one game behind Cleveland and Jacksonville, who are tied for the last playoff spot in the AFC.
More importantly, the Bills may have solidified their quarterback situation, which has resembled a revolving door as both Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman have started this season.
Losman missed two games with a knee injury, then was benched in favor of Edwards against the Baltimore Ravens on October 21.
But Edwards suffered a sprained right wrist against the New York Jets the following week, and Losman was back in as the starter against the Bengals.
Losman, who took every snap for the Bills last season, could have solidified his starting status by completing 24-of-34 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals.
Buffalo also may have found a running back, as rookie Marshawn Lynch rushed for a career-high 153 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries last week.
The Dolphins are playing their first game since suffering a 13-10 loss to the New York Giants in London on October 28.
Despite Miami's 0-8 record, coach Cam Cameron is sticking with Cleo Lemon at quarterback.
Lemon has been mediocre at best in place of the injured Trent Green, whose season - and possibly career - ended when he sustained a concussion in Week Five against the Houston Texans.
The 28-year-old Lemon has three touchdown passes, four interceptions and has fumbled twice in four games - three starts - this season.
