With division lead in sight, Jaguars host Bills
Nov 25, 2007 - 11:29 AM Buffalo (5-5) at Jacksonville (7-3) 1:00 pm ESTJACKSONVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are back in title contention in the AFC South.
Buoyed by a pair of back-to-back victories, the Jaguars host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Jacksonville is within a game of Indianapolis for the division lead and last week welcomed back quarterback David Garrard, who returned from a three-game absence to direct a 24-17 victory over the San Diego Chargers.
Garrard is the only quarterback in the league not to have thrown an interception. He completed 15-of-24 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns against San Diego.
While the Jaguars still have rugged road tests at Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, their remaining home schedule could not be easier.
Aside from the Bills, Jacksonville also hosts Carolina and Oakland - three opponents with a combined 11-19 record.
Garrard, who has thrown eight TD passes, has a passer rating higher than 100 in five of his seven starts.
"David played well," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "He came off the three-week break with the ankle very sharp and made some plays down the field and protected the ball."
Fred Taylor rushed for 85 yards, while Jacksonville's defense limited 2006 Most Valuable Player LaDainian Tomlinson to 62 yards on 16 carries.
Buffalo, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from a 56-10 thrashing at the hands of the New England Patriots.
It was the Bills' worse defeat in team history, surpassing a 43-0 defeat to the Baltimore Colts on October 10, 1971.
"We have to put it behind us to move on," safety Donte Whitner said. "We play Jacksonville next week. We're 5-5 right now. We have an opportunity to go up to Jacksonville and win a football game, now that's our focus.
"We're going to put this game behind us. We're going to go in and watch this game tomorrow, it's going to be painful."
The loss also snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bills, who watched the Patriots score touchdowns on their first seven possessions.
Quarterback J.P. Losman finished 15-of-26 for 173 yards with one TD and one interception. He was sacked four times.
Buffalo again may be without rookie running back Marshawn Lynch, who sat out last week's game with an ankle injury.
