Price is right, as Canadiens shut down Penguins

Mar 13, 2011 - 12:22 AM Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Carey Price made 26 saves for his eighth shutout of the season as the Montreal Canadiens downed the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-0, at CONSOL Energy Center.

Michael Cammalleri had a goal and an assist while Tomas Plekanec and Travis Moen each scored a goal for the Canadiens, who bounced back from Thursday's loss to St. Louis to win for the sixth time in the past seven games.

"We did a lot of the little stuff today," said Cammalleri. "We were putting shots on net, putting pressure in their zone and limiting their chances in our own end. A well-played game."

Marc-Andre Fleury was pulled in the second period after giving up three goals on 12 shots for the Penguins, who had won their previous two coming into the game.

Brent Johnson stopped all eight shots he faced the rest of the way as Pittsburgh lost its seventh game in 10.

"I don't think it was a very well exectued game by us today," said Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsma. "We just didn't do anything right today and it cost us two points. They didn't have to work very hard out there."

The Canadiens scored just 46 seconds into the contest off a right-circle faceoff win. Cammalleri eventually found the puck and his pass hit off a stick, but it retained enough momentum to reach Plekanec, who lifted a backhander over Fleury from down low.

Price needed to make just five saves in the first period and the Habs scored twice in the second to give him some breathing room.

It was a 2-0 game just 24 seconds into the middle stanza when a pass from the slot by Brian Gionta went to the right circle where Moen fired a one-timer past Fleury.

Montreal took a 3-0 lead at 6:51 on a one-timer from the low slot by Cammalleri, his 16th goal of the year.

Price made 11 stops in the middle frame to keep Pittsburgh off the board and turned aside 10 shots in the third to preserve the shutout.

Game Notes

The Penguins had their 200th consecutive sellout on Saturday...Price has 12 shutouts in his career and moved ahead of Tim Thomas into second place this season, one behind New York's Henrik Lundqvist who leads the NHL with nine whitewashes...Pittsburgh hosts Edmonton on Sunday...Montreal hosts Washington on Tuesday...The Canadiens took three of the four games against Pittsburgh this season, including both in the Steel City.
