Ducks host Panthers, aim for third straight win

Dec 1, 2010 - 4:04 PM (Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks hope to record a third straight victory tonight as they continue their homestand against the Florida Panthers at the Honda Center.

The Ducks snapped a six-game slide (0-4-2) on Saturday with a victory at the Coyotes before kicking off a four-game homestand with Monday's 2-0 blanking of the Kings.

Jonas Hiller made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season and seventh of his career. He was backed by goals from Cam Fowler and Jason Blake, while Teemu Selanne had two assists in his first game back after missing three straight due to a groin injury.

"It was one of our better games," Hiller said. "I don't think the first period was that good, but after that we were able to put pressure on them and cycle the puck in their end. We found a way and didn't back off. We can be happy with this win and it's something we can build on."

Selanne, who has 11 goals and 16 points in 18 career games versus the Panthers, is third on the Ducks with 24 points and the 40-year-old has a point in 14 of the last 17 games he has played in.

Hiller shut out the Panthers in the only other game he has started against them, making 33 saves in a 3-0 victory at Florida last year. Selanne scored in that contest, which gave Anaheim a victory in three of its last four versus Florida. Two of those wins have come by way of a shutout.

The Panthers have two victories and a tie in their last four trips to the Honda Center though, claiming a 3-1 victory in the last meeting there on Nov. 9, 2008.

Florida snapped a three-game slide on Saturday, posting a 4-3 shootout win over Tampa Bay. Radek Dvorak, Dmitry Kulikov and Shawn Matthias had the regulation goals and Stephen Weiss had the only tally of the shootout in the fourth round.

Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves for the Panthers, who were outscored 9-3 during their losing streak and had to rebound from a two-goal deficit to win on Saturday.

Florida won the opener of a four-game road trip despite going 0-for-4 on the power play. The club has failed to convert on 37 straight chances on the man advantage.

Cory Stillman left Saturday's game due to back spasms and is doubtful for tonight, though Steve Bernier could return from orbital surgery that has kept him out of the last eight games.

Vokoun gave up all three goals in last year's meeting with Anaheim. The former Predators netminder was facing the Ducks for the first time in a Panthers uniform and is 8-12-1 with a tie and 2.68 goals-against average versus the Ducks lifetime.
