Blackhawks hope to rebound against Flames

Dec 5, 2010 - 3:32 PM (Sports Network) - Though one winning streak came to an end, the Chicago Blackhawks can extend another this evening as they aim for a fifth straight home victory over the Calgary Flames at the United Center.

The Blackhawks carried a three-game winning streak into Friday's meeting with the Canucks, but were shut out, 3-0, thanks to 32 saves by Vancouver's Roberto Luongo.

Making his first start since Nov. 24, Marty Turco posted just 15 saves for the Blackhawks, who had scored seven goals in a win versus the Blues two days earlier. Forward Patrick Sharp had his goal-scoring streak end at five straight games.

"We really didn't generate much in the third, but I liked how we played for 40 [minutes]," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville.

Forward Marian Hossa missed his second game with a lower-body injury that has him sidelined indefinitely, while Fernando Pisani missed his third in a row due to an upper-body injury.

Chicago has split the first two contests of a four-game homestand and fell to 6-8-0 at home to match its regular-season regulation loss total from last year (29-8-4).

With Turco having lost three straight starts and allowing 14 goals in that span, including seven during a loss to the Flames on Nov. 19, Quenneville will go back to rookie Corey Crawford this evening. Crawford was in net for all three games of Chicago's recent win streak and has won five straight starts overall. He faces the Flames for the first time.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla tagged Turco for his 11th career hat trick in that 7-2 win back on Nov. 19, which snapped Calgary's series losing streak to Chicago at eight games. The Flames have still dropped four straight in the Windy City.

Calgary will hope to carry some momentum into this meeting after a 3-2 shootout victory over Minnesota on Friday, just the Flames' third victory in 10 games.

Mark Giordano and Alex Tanguay scored in regulation and Rene Bourque had the game-winner in the shootout, while backup goaltender Henrik Karlsson finished with 20 saves.

Calgary was coming off a 7-2 home loss to Vancouver on Wednesday and will try to win two straight for the first time since a three-game run from Oct. 22-26.

"We had a bad stretch there for a while and we haven't been able to put two wins together," said Iginla. "We needed this one and we need to start stringing three or four wins together to get back in the hunt."

Miikka Kiprusoff should draw the start tonight for Calgary and he made 31 saves in the earlier victory over Chicago. He is 9-10-4 with a tie and 3.03 GAA versus the Blackhawks lifetime.
