Bolland, Blackhawks down Flames without Kane
Dec 6, 2010 - 8:33 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dave Bolland tallied twice with the man advantage as Chicago notched four power-play goals en route to a 4-2 victory over Calgary at United Center.Jonathan Toews posted a goal and one assist for the Blackhawks, who have won four of their last five. Chicago played most of the game without Patrick Kane, who left early in the first period with an apparent leg injury and didn't return.
"He's probably going to be out for a little bit. It's not real serious. I'll go to that extent," said Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville.
Bryan Bickell also tallied and Brent Seabrook clocked in with three helpers to back 24 saves by Corey Crawford.
Jarome Iginla and Anton Babchuk each netted a power-play goal for the Flames, who have dropped three of five and have not posted consecutive wins since late October.
Miikka Kiprusoff took the loss after allowing three goals on 31 shots.
Neither team provided their goaltender with any room for error in the third period in a one-goal contest.
The Blackhawks failed to add to their lead with a pair of power plays before the midway point, and the Flames couldn't net an equalizer on three straight advantages -- including a double minor to Seabrook for high sticking.
At the tail end of the third one, Flames defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was called for hooking and Chicago had the advantage for the final 1:48.
Kiprusoff was pulled for an extra skater and Bolland slid the puck from center ice into the empty net to seal the victory.
Chicago emerged with the lead after five combined goals -- all on the power play -- were netted in the first period.
Bickell struck on a wrister from the slot at 4:14, then Bolland followed at 10:21 with a tap-in from Toews. Less than three minutes later Iginla got Calgary on the board and Babchuk equalized at 16:28 with a blistering slapper from the left point.
Toews restored the Blackhawks' lead a little more than a minute later on his poke through a goalmouth scramble and Crawford flashed his left pad to stop an open Iginla chance just before the buzzer.
Order was restored in the second period, with Crawford making eight stops and Kiprusoff turning away 11 shots.
