Sedin twins star as Canucks edge Blackhawks

Feb 5, 2011 - 7:03 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Daniel Sedin's goal with four minutes left lifted the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at Rogers Arena.

The Sedin brothers combined for two goals and three assists with Henrik tallying one goal and two helpers for the Canucks, who have won five straight. Mikael Samuelsson tallied a goal and an assist while Roberto Luongo stopped 42 shots in the win.

"It was a huge game for us tonight," said Henrik Sedin. "Our power play scored twice and the penalty killing was great. That's what you need to win in this league."

Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist while Nick Boynton and Dave Bolland each scored for the Blackhawks, who have dropped three of their last four. Marty Turco stopped 28 shots in the loss.

"We weren't able to put it away," said Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith. "We have to take the positives out of this. We battled and had our chances to score goals. But we have to put teams away when we have the chance."

Trailing by a goal in the final period, a holding call on Brent Seabrook gave Vancouver the power play and the team took advantage as a hard slap-pass from Samuelsson in the high slot went to the low right circle where Henrik one- timed it home with 9:51 to play.

The winning goal came on the transition when Alex Burrows picked off Patrick Kane in the Vancouver end and sent a lead pass to a skating Daniel Sedin, who left a drop pass for his brother. From the top of the right circle, Henrik chipped it into the slot and Daniel redirected it in for a 4-3 lead.

Kevin Bieksa was called for high-sticking with 2:59 to play to give Chicago one final advantage, but the team was unable to capitalize and Vancouver held on.

A Chicago goal was disallowed with 5:03 left in the first as Bolland interfered with Luongo prior to the score.

Vancouver took a 1-0 lead with 1:54 left in the first when Christian Ehrhoff sent a blast into the net from the high slot just before the puck crossed the blueline.

Toews tied the game for Chicago at the 5:06 mark of the second when he beat a Canuck at the right boards and from the circle snapped a shot past Luongo.

It was a 2-1 Chicago lead with 10:29 to play in the second as Toews sent a pass on the fly from the left point to the low right side where it hit off of Boynton and went into the net.

However, Vancouver tied the game with 1:16 left in the second on the power play as a one-timer from Samuelsson at the left circle beat Turco.
