Vrbata's PP goal in OT gets Coyotes past Stars

Feb 10, 2011 - 6:17 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Radim Vrbata scored on the power play just 1:13 into overtime to give Phoenix a 3-2 win over Dallas at American Airlines Center.

Jamie Langenbrunner was called for tripping with 19 seconds left in regulation and Phoenix carried the advantage into the extra session.

Keith Yandle passed from the high slot to the inside right circle for Vrbata, who stickhandled the puck past a diving defender and snapped a wrister by Kari Lehtonen for the win.

Michal Rozsival and Mikkel Boedker scored for the Coyotes, who have won three straight. Ilya Bryzgalov posted 16 saves in the win.

"We had too many turnover tonight," said Phoenix head coach Dave Tippett. "As the game went on we got better, started playing faster and were able to get the win."

Brad Richards had a goal and an assist while Steve Ott also scored for the Stars, who have dropped four straight for the first time since losing seven in a row from March 17-30, 2009. Lehtonen stopped 32 shots.

"It was a tight game and we play alot of those against Phoenix," said Richards. "We're gonna have some that go our way, then others where we battle hard and come out on the wrong end."

Dallas got the first goal of the game with 9:12 left in the first period. Richards backhanded the puck from behind the net to the left circle, where Ott wristed it home.

Rozsival tied the game on the power play with 1:38 left in the first, tapping in the rebound of a Taylor Pyatt shot from the right side.

At the 5:56 mark of the second, the Stars took a 2-1 lead. Richards sprung Nicklas Grossman on a short breakaway, and the defenseman had his shot stopped. Richards, though, followed the play and snapped in the rebound from the left side.

Boedker netted his first goal of the season at the 5:37 mark of the third.
