Stars top Ducks, keep playoff hopes alive
Apr 4, 2011 - 4:20 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Brenden Morrow had a goal and two assists to help Dallas keep its playoff hopes alive with a 4-3 win over Anaheim. The win gave Dallas 89 points, three back of Chicago for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Calgary also sits in front of Dallas with 91 points.
Mike Ribeiro had two goals while Jeff Woywitka added a goal and an assist for the Stars, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Kari Lehtonen made 24 stops in the game.
"We're in desperation mode right now and every point means something. These were two huge points," Morrow said.
Corey Perry had a goal and an assist and Ryan Getzlaf and Lubomir Visnovsky also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who have lost their last two. Ray Emery made 27 saves in the loss.
Anaheim holds a one-point lead over Chicago for the seventh playoff spot in the West.
Anaheim came into the third period down by one and appeared to have the game tied with 2:04 to play when Teemu Selanne redirected a point shot into the net, but Saku Koivu was ruled to have interfered with Lehtonen prior to the goal.
Anaheim kept at it and appeared to score the tying goal with 48.9 left, but again the goal was waived off due to a hand pass prior to the puck going into the net, and Dallas held on for the win.
"I don't think we're happy with the way we played overall. The focus wasn't there," Koivu said.
Getzlaf scored 7:27 in on a one-timer from the left circle while Woywitka countered three minutes later off a simple wrister from the top of the right circle that fooled Emery.
Dallas took a 2-1 lead with 2:53 to play in the first as Ribeiro's one-timer off a nice feed from Morrow at the right circle beat Emery, but Visnovsky's shot from a sharp angle at the left side after a melee in front tied the game heading into the second.
Morrow made it a 3-2 game 7:20 into the second on his one-timer from the slot, and it was a 4-2 game thanks to a power-play goal from Ribeiro off a Brad Richards rebound.
Perry, though, scored a shorthanded goal with a backhander from the low left circle off the rush to make it a 4-3 game.
