Grevsmuhl in frame for Titans debut
Mar 28, 2017 - 5:19 AM Gold Coast coach Neil Henry has called fresh recruit Chris Grevsmuhl into his squad for Sunday's NRL clash against the Warriors after Agnatius Paasi was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. The Titans have suffered a glut of injuries throughout the pre-season and their first four games of 2017, the latest being Paasi's injury last round against North Queensland which is expected to keep him sidelined for four to six weeks.
Henry said they will not be looking to recruit mid-season to cover for their big casualty ward, with former South Sydney and Penrith forward Grevsmuhl a chance to make his debut for the Titans after being iuncluded in a 21-man squad on Tuesday.
The Indigenous All Star was released by the Panthers last season due to personal reasons.
The backrower signed with the Titans last week after training with Orange CYMS in the central-west of NSW over the summer.
"Chris has been out of an NRL system for a couple of months," Henry said.
"He's training with the squad and is fit so we'll see how he goes throughout the week in the lead up to Sunday"
If Grevsmuhl plays it will make him the Titans' third debutant in two weeks but he faces tough competition before he adds to his 43 NRL games.
"Paterika Vaivai has been playing good footy in the Queensland Cup so that's another option, Morgan Boyle is another guy, and I think Max King has been outstanding," said Henry on Monday.
Jarryd Hayne is expected to return from an ankle injury in a few weeks, but there are still concerns that the star fullback won't take the second-year option on his $1 million deal for 2018.
"Its up to him to make a decision so we should know by May but hopefully he is in the affirmative and sticks around and plays some good footy here," said Henry.
