Rodgers goal pushes New York to third straight win
May 1, 2011 - 2:19 AM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York earned a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer action at Red Bull Arena to move to the top of the Eastern table on Saturday.The win, New York's third straight, was made possible by Luke Rodgers' third goal of the season in the 22nd minute.
New York (4-1-2) looked like it would go up one in the 14th minute when midfielder Dwayne De Rosario drew a penalty kick, but Rafa Marquez' kick was saved by Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.
But eight minutes later Rodgers got the game-winner after a quick buildup on a restart was played to Thierry Henry in the middle of the field bef0re he one- timed to De Rosario on the right side. De Rosario then played a perfectly weighted pass toRodgers, who one-timed home from close range.
Kansas City (1-4-1) sits in last in the Eastern table with just four points in six matches, all on the road.
