N.Y., S.J. aim to get more offensive at Red Bull Arena

Apr 15, 2011 - 8:49 PM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bulls New York and the San Jose Earthquakes meet in a Major League Soccer inter-conference clash at Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

The Red Bulls are riding a three-match winless streak after falling to the Eastern table leading Philadelphia Union last weekend.

New York (1-1-2), who many consider the most talented in the league this season, has been disappointing so far this season at scoring goals. While the team has been dominating the possession game, it only has two goals in four games to show for it.

"They way we're playing out of the back four into the midfield is really rather good, fluid," New York coach Hans Backe told mlssoccer.com. "We're forcing them to sit back. I don't think most teams want to sit back that way, but we're forcing other teams to really play defense as we dictate the play."

So far, though, that hasn't translated into goals.

"I think we weren't urgent enough on Saturday," New York striker Juan Agudelo told mlssoccer.com about the team's 1-0 loss in Philadelphia. "When we slowed things down, they were able to get their guys back and on top of the 18. When that happens, we're not able to use Dane Richards? speed, my speed at all. We need to play with more urgency."

San Jose is suffering from the same lack of goal production, although its problem stems from giving up the first goal, which it has done in three of four games this season.

"Stat-wise, in this league, if you go a goal down, you don't win many games," San Jose coach Frank Yallop told his club's website. "We've come back twice to tie, and we should have tied Salt Lake, to be honest. So that's a good trait. But we've got to score first."

San Jose will have to find a way to get it done without midfielder Andre Luiz because of injury, and Omar Jasseh because o of international absence. Defender Tim Ward is doubtful, forward Steven Lenhart is questionable, and forwards Scott Sealy and Ellis McLoughlin are probable, all with injuries.

New York is still without the services of defender Chris Albright because of off season knee surgery, while goalkeeper Greg Sutton and forward Thierry Henry are questionable with head and Achilles injuries, respectively.
