Dallas puts unbeaten streak on the line against Revs

Jun 3, 2011 - 4:26 PM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - FC Dallas will carry an eight-game unbeaten streak into its match with the New England Revolution on Saturday at Pizza Hut Park, while the Revs will be searching for their first win away from home this season.

Dallas has been in fine form since 2010 MLS Most Valuable Player David Ferreira went down with a serious leg injury earlier in the season, and much of the credit should go to the defense.

The club was expected to struggle without the creativity of Ferreira in midfield, and although goals have been tough to come by, a streak of five successive clean sheets allowed FCD to continue picking up points.

In a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo last weekend, the shutout streak was snapped at 531 minutes, the fifth longest mark in league history.

And while the Hoops were denied all three points in the match by an 87th- minute equalizer from the Dynamo's Colin Clark, Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman remained upbeat.

"The boys were extremely disappointed getting scored on that late and being up a man and being on the road," Hyndman told the club's official website. "They worked so hard and this was a three-point game. I said, 'Guys, we are all disappointed as we came so close to getting the three points, but you know you gave everything you had.'"

New England, meanwhile, has failed to record a win in any of its five away matches this season, and with just two goals in its last five games, a strong defensive team like Dallas is probably not the ideal opponent.

The Revs have lost their last two games, including a 1-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Galaxy last time out, and coach Steve Nicol feels like his side is just a bit off the pace at the moment.

"I think the biggest problem we have is we're naive," Nicol said following the loss. "We don't make the best decisions at times. I think that's our biggest problem. Between the sync and the final third, we're just that wee bit out, whether it's a bad decision or a bad pass or a bad run. We have a real solid team. I don't think there's too much between the teams, to be honest, but they won. We're just a little bit away. But it's no good being a little bit away and losing games. We need to pick up points."

There has not been a lot of good news for New England in the past few weeks, but the club will not lose midfielder Shalrie Joseph to the Gold Cup competition as he has turned down an invitation to play for Grenada.
