Chivas needs good result at home against Dallas

Jun 18, 2011 - 12:13 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA is the only Major League Soccer team with a losing record at home this season, but with 10 matches left at The Home Depot Center, there's still time for first-year coach Robin Fraser to turn the team's fortunes around.

FC Dallas won't make that easy Saturday night.

Chivas has three losses and two draws in seven home matches, accumulating just eight points on its home field. On the road, Chivas USA has two wins and three ties for nine points.

FC Dallas lost its last match, 4-1, to Sporting Kansas City, but had gone nine matches without a loss before the surprising setback. Chivas had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped last week in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo.

So, if the teams played one week earlier, the match would be more anticipated. Now, it's just a huge bounce back game for each side. And for Chivas USA, even more important to get a result - preferably a win - at home.

Although Marcos Mondaini has scored in back-to-back games since returning from a four-game suspension, Chivas (4-5-5) will again be without forward Alejandro Moreno due to international duty.

Moreno rejoined Chivas from Venezuela last week, but is back with his national team as they prepare for the Copa America. Although Fraser saw some positives last week, the team needs to find more consistency over 90 minutes to produce.

"When we decided to play, we were quite good, and we were able to play through them, which was a difficult thing to do here with this team and the kind of pressure they put on," Fraser said.

"I thought that at times when we played confidently, we were able to possess our way pretty well up the field."

FC Dallas (7-4-4) coach Schellas Hyndman admitted it was a "very disappointing performance on our part," after the loss to Houston.

But Hyndman was more upset about the team's attitude, adding "they wanted the game more than us, and I can't say that's occurred very often here."

Veteran Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman echoed Hyndman, saying "it was a poor representation of who we are as a group." But Hartman also said it was crucial to move on.

"It's one of those games you have to move on quickly from," Hartman said. "They really kind of handed it to us today, to be honest. It's humbling, it's frustrating, it's embarrassing. All you can do is get back to work."

Hyndman admitted it was best to move on as well, but the team had to grow from the loss and learn from their mistakes.

"We're going to take this loss as an opportunity. An opportunity to find out a little more about this team, and an opportunity to realize that we're better when we play as a team and fight for every ball," said Hyndman.
