Sosa's double helps UNAM topple Toluca

Jan 26, 2015 - 4:21 PM Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Ismael Sosa scored a goal in each half as UNAM recorded its first win of the season on Sunday, edging Toluca 3-2.

UNAM seized the advantage only three minutes into the game following a header from Gerardo Alcoba, while Sosa doubled the lead in the 19th with a well- struck shot from 20 yards.

Toluca pulled a goal back through Carlos Esquivel in the 54th when he scuffed a volley that still managed to squeeze inside the post to make it a 2-1 game.

Sosa was on target again with 15 minutes to play as he scored from close range to restore UNAM's two-goal lead.

Edgar Benitez hammered home a powerful left-footed shot with five minutes to play to cut the deficit to 3-2, but UNAM was able to hang on for its first victory of the campaign.

Leones Negros and Guadalajara played to a 1-1 draw in the Guadalajara derby as Leones took the lead in the 48th minute through Fidel Martinez, only for Omar Bravo's goal in the 83rd to cancel out that tally.

Jaguares downed 10-man Atlas, 3-1, behind two goals from Aviles Hurtado after Juan Pablo Rodriguez was sent off for Atlas just 10 minutes into the contest.

Pachuca got goals from Miguel Angel Herrera and Diego De Buen in the opening 30 minutes before holding on for a 2-1 win over Queretaro, while America and Puebla played out a 0-0 draw.

Tijuana slipped past Tigres, 2-1, with Dayro Moreno scoring the winning goal shortly after halftime, Morelia and Leon finished 0-0, Santos rolled over Monterrey, 4-1, and Veracruz played to a 0-0 stalemate with Cruz Azul in a battle of the top two teams in Liga MX.
