Achahbar's double leads Feyenoord past PSV

Mar 22, 2015 - 6:57 PM Rotterdam, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Anass Achahbar scored a pair of goals in the second half to propel Feyenoord to a 2-1 home win over Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven.

One of the few moments of quality in the first half was a great early chance for Feyenoord's Lex Immers, who failed to hit the target from a few yards after being picked out by a cross from Elvis Manu.

PSV threatened with a rocket from Adam Maher that crashed against the crossbar, but the teams remained scoreless until the hour mark when Rick Karsdorp's long ball was finished off with a first-time effort from Achahbar.

Feyenoord's lead was doubled a few minutes later with another fine finish from Achahbar, who brought down a pass from Jean Paul Boetius and lashed a volley into the bottom corner of the net.

Memphis Depay pulled a goal back for the visitors with a long-range effort that caught goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer out of position.

Luuk de Jong came close to finding an equalizer for PSV, but his free header was sent wide of the net to clinch three points for the hosts.

The result leaves PSV eight points clear of second-place Ajax, which edged Den Haag, 1-0, on an 80th-minute own goal from Xander Houtkoop.

Mimoun Mahi's goal 10 minutes from time helped Groningen claim a 2-2 draw with Twente, while Zwolle and Excelsior played out a 1-1 deadlock as the two sides traded first-half goals.
