Manu's double sees Feyenoord smash AZ Alkmaar

Apr 5, 2015 - 5:03 PM Alkmaar, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Elvis Manu netted a pair of goals on Sunday as Feyenoord rolled to a 4-1 thrashing of AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion.

Feyenoord entered the clash in outstanding form, riding a five-match unbeaten streak in league play and wasted little time taking the lead on Sunday as an own goal from Alkmaar's Derrick Luckassen gave the visitors the lead after just three minutes.

The early stroke of luck proved just what Feyenoord needed to get rolling and they doubled the lead five minutes before the break through a goal from Anass Achahbar.

Manu got into the scoring mood on the stroke of halftime and completed his double in the 59th minute for a commanding 4-0 lead.

AZ Alkmaar pulled one back in the 87th minute through an own goal from Sven van Beek, but it did nothing to influence the result as Feyenoord claimed all three points to pull within six points of second-place Ajax.

Alkmaar remains in fourth place on 50 points, seven behind Feyenoord.

Also in the Dutch top flight on Sunday, a Ramon Leeuwin own goal and a tally from Gevero Markiet five minutes from time saw FC Utrecht and Ajax play to a 1-1 draw at the Stadion Galgenwaard.

Michiel Kramer scored on either side of the break and Roland Alberg added a third goal as Den Haag claimed a nervy 3-2 victory over Excelsior.

Sunday's final match saw Sebastian Steblecki score seven minutes from time to lift Cambuur to a 1-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles.
