Glory's Kenny earns A-League Yel-Lowe

Nov 24, 2017 - 10:15 PM Kenny Lowe earned a slice of A-League and world football history on Friday night.

The Perth Glory boss became the first manager to be yellow carded on the touchline as part of a world-first trial undertaken by the Australian national competition.

And if any coach was going to be the first, it was going to be Lowe.

The 56-year-old is as animated a figure as any on the touchline, and isn't shy a word with officials.

During the first half of Friday night's 3-1 win over Melbourne City, Lowe's ire was caught when referee Daniel Elder chose not to stop play with striker Andy Keogh on the turf.

The Glory captain would need substituting with a groin complaint after Lowe's complaints brought him the groundbreaking booking.

"I had the old Melbourne City cloud didn't I? I lost my head," he said.

"I promised myself I'd try to be a bit calm."

It's not Lowe's first punishment at AAMI Park - last season he was sent to the stands and was forced to watch the match from the box.

But Glory keep winning at the Melbourne stadium, earning a fourth win in five clashes against City, including last year's elimination final.

Lowe credited the contribution of younger players in Friday night's win.

Jacob Italiano, 16, and Joe Knowles, 21, were strong contributors, with a string of other new A-League faces in the side.

"You've got to be pleased with the contribution from a lot of the inexperienced players. They were deserving," he sad.

Lowe warned against over-praising Italiano, who was involved in the opening two goals.

But he was happy to talk up the result, which lifts Glory to fourth.

"At the end of the day someone says you're going to Melbourne City and you're going to win 3-1 you snap their hands off.

"I'd love to get a yellow card every time we come here if we keep winning."
