Fowles leads Sky to 4th straight win

Jun 6, 2010 - 3:53 AM CHICAGO(AP) -- Sylvia Fowles had a career-high 32 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Chicago Sky to their fourth straight win, 95-70 over the Tulsa Shock on Saturday night.

Shameka Christon added a season-high 17 points for the Sky (4-4). Fowles shot 12 for 16 from the field.

"Tonight was the most fun I've ever had (WNBA)," Fowles said. "Things just happened to bounce my way."

Fowles scored 19 points in the first half to lead Chicago to a 41-34 halftime lead. The Sky led 68-61 after three quarters and put the game out of reach with a 12-0 run to pen the fourth.

"We're really playing well right now, with great chemistry," Christon said. "We're clicking."

Tulsa had no answer for Fowles on either end of the floor, as she constantly disrupted the Shock's inside attack.

"She's a tremendous player," Tulsa coach Nolan Richardson said. "Not very many people were able to stop her tonight. You can't guard her 1-on-1."

Shanna Crossley scored 20 points, Scholanda Robinson had 15 and Plenette Pierson 14 for the Shock (3-4). Crossley was 5 for 6 on 3-pointers.

The Sky led from the start, taking a 16-6 lead on Fowles' rebound basket with 3:22 left in the first quarter. The 6-foot-6 center scored 11 points in the second quarter as Chicago led 41-34 at halftime.

"She was awesome tonight," Sky coach Steve Key said. "That was the player we drafted two seasons ago (LSU All-American) No. 2 and who could have been No. 1."

Fowles, whose previous career high was 23 points against New York on May 16, was the second pick in the 2008 draft behind Los Angeles' Candace Parker

"To me, Sylvia hasn't even scratched the surface of her potential," Christon said. "I told her, 'You can be the best post player in the world. Not just the league, but in the world."'

Crossley scored 11 points in the third quarter as Tulsa closed to 64-59 before Chicago pulled away.

"We couldn't stop any of them," Crossley said. "They were knocking down shots left and right and we just ran out of gas."

Tamera Young added 10 points for the Sky, who outrebounded the Shock 37-25.

"We really played well for all 40 minutes," Fowles said. "Everything was working."
