Charles paces Sun over Mystics
Jun 17, 2011 - 1:22 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Tina Charles scored seven of her game-high 26 points in the final 5:14, lifting Connecticut to a 79-71 win over Washington.Renee Montgomery added 23 points, while Tan White finished with 11, including seven in the final quarter, for the Sun.
Kelly Miller led the way with 19 points for the Mystics, who also received 11 points from Matee Ajavon. Nicky Anosike tallied 10 points and 13 rebounds in defeat, Washington's second this season against the Sun.
Washington managed to bounce back from a 17-point deficit, but shot just 5-of-19 from the field in the final quarter.
Anosike's jumper boosted the hosts to a 65-64 lead with 5:45 left, but the advantage lasted less than a minute.
Charles, who also had 10 rebounds, put her team back in front with a put-back layup with 5:14 left. Kalana Greene and Montgomery tacked on layups, and White banged in a three to cap the monumental 9-0 push with 3:26 remaining.
Crystal Langhorne's layup had Washington within 73-70 with 2 1/2 minutes to go, but Charles converted a three-point play to stem the tide.
The Sun led 23-11 after one quarter and built that to as high as 31-14 in the second.
