Surging Mystics rally past Sun
Jun 6, 2014 - 1:30 AM Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Kia Vaughn posted 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Washington Mystics to their third straight win, a 74-66 decision over the Connecticut Sun Thursday at Mohegan Sun Arena.Ivory Latta and Monique Currie added 12 points apiece for the Mystics, doing most of their damage during a fourth quarter in which Washington outscored the Sun by a 24-15 margin to prevail. Currie had eight points and Latta seven for the period.
Chiney Ogwumike tallied 16 points for Connecticut and pulled the Sun within one on a putback that cut Washington's lead to 64-63 with three minutes left. Connecticut failed to make a field goal the rest of the way, however, to fall to 2-6 on the season.
The Sun's Renee Montgomery was fouled on a 3-point attempt with just under a minute to go and hit all three free throws to trim the margin to 69-66, but Latta scored on the ensuing possession before the Mystics closed the game out at the foul line.
Alex Bentley finished with 12 points for Connecticut, with Katie Douglas netting 11 on 4-of-14 shooting in the loss.
