Brigade keep it on ground in win over Rush
Mar 4, 2007 - 9:31 PM KANSAS CITY (Ticker) -- Charles Frederick ran for three touchdowns and quarterback Raymond Philyaw added two as the Kansas City Brigade used an uncharacteristic ground game for a 54-41 victory over the Chicago Rush in the season opener for both teams.Dawan Moss also ran for a score for Kansas City, which had 131 yards and six TDs on the ground despite the pass-happy atmosphere of the Arena League. By contrast, Chicago had three carries for 13 yards.
Frederick had eight carries for 60 yards. His nine-yard TD run gave the Brigade a 29-19 lead early in the third quarter.
The Rush closed to 41-35 with 9:01 to play on a two-yard scoring toss to Russell Shaw from Matt D'Orazio, who completed 20-of-27 passes for 250 yards and four TDs.
The Brigade answered with a 44-yard TD run by Philyaw and a 27-yard scoring jaunt by Frederick.
Philyaw had six carries for 46 yards and was 23-of-33 for 225 yards, two TDs and an interception returned for a score in the first half by Chicago's DeJuan Alfonzo.
