Desperados clinch Eastern Division, first-round bye

May 27, 2007 - 6:55 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Clint Dolezel threw five touchdown passes as the Dallas Desperados clinched the Eastern Division title and earned a first-round bye with a 56-47 triumph over the Columbus Destroyers.

Dolezel completed 26-of-33 passes for 293 yards. Will Pettis and Andrae Thurman each hauled in nine receptions and two touchdowns for the Desperados (11-1), who have won four in a row.

Willis Marshall had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving for Dallas, which never trailed and faced only one third down in the game.

Matt Nagy passed for 270 yards and five touchdowns but was intercepted twice for the Destroyers (6-6), which had a five-game home winning streak snapped.

Damien Groce had 13 catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns and David Saunders added nine receptions and three scores for Columbus, which converted 3-of-6 on third down.
