Grieb, Roe dazzle as SaberCats advance to conference championship
Jul 8, 2007 - 12:30 AM SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Mark Grieb and James Roe proved to be too much of a 1-2 punch for the Colorado Crush.Grieb threw nine touchdowns, including five to Roe, as the San Jose SaberCats posted a 76-67 triumph over the Crush in the American Conference semifinal on Saturday.
Grieb completed 30-of-40 passes for 316 yards to become the fourth player in postseason history to throw for 3,500 career yards. He also took over third place on the all-time list with 79 TD passes.
Roe hauled in 14 passes for 135 yards, including a seven-yard score from Grieb with 4:47 remaining as San Jose built a 69-60 advantage.
San Jose (14-3) took the lead for good in the third quarter, when Grieb and Roe hooked up for another seven-yard TD at the 1:01 mark to make it 55-48.
John Dutton was also impressive for Colorado, throwing 29-of-37 passes for 416 yards and eight TDs. Three of those scoring strikes went to Brad Pyatt, who finished with 11 catches for 208 yards.
The SaberCats, who have won 11 straight games, will host the winner of Monday's matchup between the Los Angeles Avengers and Chicago Rush.
