Grieb, Roe dazzle as SaberCats advance to conference championship

Jul 8, 2007 - 12:30 AM SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Mark Grieb and James Roe proved to be too much of a 1-2 punch for the Colorado Crush.

Grieb threw nine touchdowns, including five to Roe, as the San Jose SaberCats posted a 76-67 triumph over the Crush in the American Conference semifinal on Saturday.

Grieb completed 30-of-40 passes for 316 yards to become the fourth player in postseason history to throw for 3,500 career yards. He also took over third place on the all-time list with 79 TD passes.

Roe hauled in 14 passes for 135 yards, including a seven-yard score from Grieb with 4:47 remaining as San Jose built a 69-60 advantage.

San Jose (14-3) took the lead for good in the third quarter, when Grieb and Roe hooked up for another seven-yard TD at the 1:01 mark to make it 55-48.

John Dutton was also impressive for Colorado, throwing 29-of-37 passes for 416 yards and eight TDs. Three of those scoring strikes went to Brad Pyatt, who finished with 11 catches for 208 yards.
