Destroyers stun Desperados to advance to conference championship

Jul 8, 2007 - 5:59 AM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Matt Nagy threw for four touchdowns and ran for two others as the Columbus Destroyers posted a 66-59 triumph over the Dallas Desperados in the National Conference semifinal on Saturday night.

Nagy completed 20-of-32 passes for 285 yards, including an insurance TD to Jason Shelley with a minute remaining for a 66-52 advantage.

Columbus took control of the game in third quarter, outscoring Dallas, 17-0, in the period. Damien Groce's four-yard scamper at the 14:02 mark gave the Destroyers the lead for good at 42-38.

Groce also hauled in eight passes for 170 yards and a score.

Clint Dolezel went 27-of-36 for 320 yards and seven touchdowns and Marcus Nash had seven catches for 129 yards and two TDs for Dallas (15-2), which lost three fumbles.

The Destroyers (8-9) will tangle with the winner of Sunday's game between the Philadelphia Soul and the Georgia Force in next weekend's conference championship.
