Kris Benson, who was named to the Rangers' Opening Day rotation on Friday despite having not pitched in the majors since 2006, allowed three runs - one earned - and eight hits while striking out five in five innings.

Juan Cruz, Kyle Farnsworth and Joakim Soria combined to allow one hit over the last three innings for the Royals.

At Las Vegas, Nevada - Troy Tulowitzki each had two hits and an RBI and Jeff Baker drove in a pair as the Colorado Rockies edged the Seattle Mariners, 6-5.

At Oakland, California - Top prospect Brett Anderson, who was named to the Opening Day roster earlier in the week, allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings in his final spring tuneup to help the Oakland Athletics top the San Francisco Giants, 3-2.

At Phoenix - Jose Contreras allowed one hit in four scoreless innings and Alexei Ramirez drove in a run to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 2-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

At Anaheim, California - Bobby Wilson singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim a 5-4 win over the San Diego Padres.

At Los Angeles - Ryan Braun homered in the seventh and Brad Nelson added a three-run blast in the ninth as the Milwaukee Brewers scored all of their runs after the sixth inning en route to a 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
