Marshall beats Tulane 89-79
Jan 17, 2010 - 2:31 AM HUNTINGTON, W.Va.(AP) -- Freshman forward Hassan Whiteside recorded a double-double and blocked eight shots, helping Marshall stay undefeated in Conference USA with an 89-79 win over Tulane on Saturday night.Whiteside scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Thundering Herd (15-2, 4-0), who have won six in a row since getting routed 98-61 at No. 12 North Carolina on Dec. 12. Marshall has won 14 of their last 15.
Shaquille Johnson added 18 points, Dago Pena had 14 and Chris Lutz 10 for the Thundering Herd, who were 4 of 6 from 3-point range (66.7 percent).
Kris Richard hit five 3s for the Green Wave, but they finished just 8 of 28 from beyond the arc (28.6 percent).
Richard and Asim McQueen scored 20 points apiece to lead Tulane (6-11, 1-3), and David Booker added 13.
Marshall jumped out to a 10-4 lead and never trailed in the game.
