Tennessee, Butler looking to get back to "Sweet 16"

Mar 23, 2008 - 10:19 AM No. 7 Butler (30-3) vs. No. 2 Tennessee (30-4) 2:30 pm EDT

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) - In a battle of 30-win teams, second-seeded Tennessee squares off with No. 7 Butler in a second-round matchup of the NCAA Tournament's East Regional on Sunday.

Both teams are looking for a return trip to the regional semifinals. Last season, Tennessee lost to Ohio State, and Butler was defeated by Florida.

The Volunteers (30-4) are coming off a 72-57 victory over American on Friday, despite a season low-tying five points from leading scorer Chris Lofton.

JaJuan Smith scored 19 points and Wayne Chism had 16 for Tennessee, which averages just under 83 points per game.

The Volunteers will have to be ready to defend the 3-point line against one of the best shooting teams in the tournament.

Butler (30-3) made 15-of-28 shots from the arc in its first-round victory, an 81-61 win over South Alabama.

Pete Campbell led the way with eight 3-pointers, scoring 26 points for the Bulldogs, who average 9.4 made shots from the arc per contest.

The game will be a rematch from last season in New York, when the Bulldogs pulled out a 56-44 victory. Tennessee shot just 3-of-29 from the floor in the second half.

The winner will move on to face either Louisville or Oklahoma in the regional semifinals next Thursday.
