Penn State looks for another home upset of Ohio State

Oct 27, 2007 - 11:32 AM No. 1 Ohio St (8-0) at No. 24 Penn St (6-2) 8:00 pm EDT

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel does not have to remind his players what happened the last time they were in Happy Valley.

The top-ranked Buckeyes look to extend their regular-season winning streak to 27 games Saturday when they visit Big Ten Conference rival No. 24 Penn State, which handed them their last such loss.

Two years ago, Ohio State fell to Penn State here, 17-10.

But the Buckeyes won their final eight regular-season games in 2005, all 12 last year and have taken their first eight in 2007. In fact, the Buckeyes' only defeat in that span was a 41-14 loss to Florida in last year's national championship game.

Ohio State (8-0, 4-0 Big Ten) remained perfect on the campaign with a 24-17 home win over Michigan State last weekend.

Chris "Beanie" Wells rushed for a career-high 221 yards and a touchdown for the Buckeyes, who did just enough to hang on after opening a 24-0 third-quarter lead.

Todd Boeckman tossed two touchdowns but threw an interception that was returned for a score and lost a fumble that went for another in the third quarter.

Penn State (6-2, 2-2) has won three straight games after suffering consecutive defeats at Michigan and Illinois. Last Saturday, the Nittany Lions edged Indiana on the road, 36-31.

Anthony Morelli threw two TDs with an interception and Rodney Kinlaw iced the game with a five-yard TD run with just over four minutes to play for Penn State, which trailed by eight points midway through the second quarter.

Ohio State beat Penn State easily at home last year, 28-6.
