Broncos may go head-to-head with World Series-bound Rockies
Oct 29, 2007 - 10:22 AM Green Bay (5-1) at Denver (3-3) Monday 8:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) - Monday could go down as the most memorable night in Denver sports history.
On the same evening the Colorado Rockies could host Game Five of the World Series, the Denver Broncos will entertain the Green Bay Packers.
In anticipation of the dual events, the NFL has moved up the start of the Broncos' game 30 minutes. It will start at 6:05 p.m local time.
"It really doesn't matter to me," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said of the time change. "I just think it would be nice if people could watch both games."
Major League Baseball has not announced a starting time for a possible Game Five, but the two games could create a logistical nightmare.
Coors Field, the Rockies' home, is just two miles from the Broncos' stadium, Invesco Field.
The Broncos are probably the NFL's most unpredictable team. Even though they have split their first six games, they have been outscored by 58 points.
Denver has lost its three games by an average of 21.7 points, while its three wins have come on final-play field goals by Jason Elam.
Last Sunday, Elam delivered again, booting a 49-yard field goal as time expired to give the Broncos a 31-28 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The next two weeks could determine if the Packers truly are one of the NFC's elite teams.
Green Bay, which owns a one-game lead over Detroit in the North, begins a two-game road trip against AFC West opponents. Next week, the Packers play at Kansas City.
Historically, Denver and Kansas City have been two of the toughest venues for visiting teams. However, the Broncos are only 2-2 at home this season.
Two weeks ago, Denver was drubbed by the San Diego Chargers, 41-3, suffering its worst home defeat since 1966. Monday's game concluded a three-game homestand.
While Brett Favre has sparked the Packers' resurgence, Green Bay is still searching for an effective running game. The Packers are last in the NFL in rushing, averaging just 65.7 yards per game on the ground.
