Glory sign ex-Liverpool youth midfielder
Jul 31, 2017 - 6:38 AM Emerging midfielder Jake Brimmer has signed with Perth Glory for the upcoming A-League season after failing to crack a game with EPL giants Liverpool. The 19-year-old spent the previous three years in the youth squad at Liverpool after the Reds first spotted him during their trip to Melbourne in 2014.
Although he played in Liverpool's under-23s side, he was unable to crack a senior game.
Brimmer was linked with moves to both Burnley and Kaiserslautern after being released by Liverpool earlier this year, but he has decided to return to Australia instead.
The midfielder has represented Australia at Under-17 and Under-20 level, and was a part of the Joeys squad at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup.
"Jake is one of the brightest young Australian prospects and we beat off some stiff competition from clubs in both Europe and the A-League to sign him," Glory's head of football Jacob Burns said.
"He's an intelligent midfielder with a great passing range and technical ability who has the potential to be a massive asset to the club.
"We're really excited to have him on board."
Brimmer is expected to make his Glory debut in Tuesday night's FFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Heidelberg United.
