Glory look to keep up strong A-League form

Oct 22, 2017 - 5:29 PM Fitness was again a factor in Perth Glory's come-from-behind A-League win against Central Coast Mariners and coach Kenny Lowe hopes that continues to set his team apart.

Glory got their opening win of the season in their first appearance at home beating Central Coast Mariners 2-1 following a road loss to the Western Sydney Wanderers and draw with Newcastle Jets.

Perth conceded the first goal at nib Stadium to the Mariners but scored twice in the second half through Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart to claim the three points.

It was on the back of a dominant last half-hour against a tiring Mariners that Glory got on top.

That fitness was a hallmark of the Glory season of 2014-15 where they sat top of the table before a salary cap row erupted.

Lowe now hopes the trend so far of this season can continue.

"We actually feel underdone but we seem to be running over teams in the last 30 minutes, which is really pleasing for the players and gives us a lot of confidence moving forward," Lowe said.

"It's the best we've ever been. We looked at our first year and we really smashed the boys when we ended up going 18 games unbeaten.

"We've actually done more than that this year.

"That's been tough for the lads but they've worked really hard and in the main everyone seems to be at a good level. "

The next challenge is back on the road for Glory against the defending champions Sydney FC on Friday night at Allianz Stadium.

The short turnaround after playing in warm conditions might be a concern, but Lowe is looking forward to the challenge against the Sky Blues.

"It's going to be a toughie for us heading across to Sydney who are a super team," he said.

But that's good. You want to play against the best teams and they certainly are the best team in the country..

"We'll have a few sore bodies over the next couple of days and it's a four-day turnaround which isn't ideal and we have to fly, but those are the cards we are dealt.

"We won't moan about it, we'll get on with it and hopefully go over there and put in a good performance and maybe get something out of the game."
