Banfield eases past Atletico Rafaela

Feb 24, 2015 - 4:30 PM Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Four different players found the back of the net on Friday as Banfield ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Atletico Rafaela at the Estadio Nuevo Monumental.

After a season-opening defeat against Temperley, Banfield traveled away from home hoping to find their first win of the season and the club got off to a positive start after just two minutes when Ricardo Noir found the back of the net.

Luciano Civelli doubled the advantage for Banfield on the half-hour mark and Mauricio Cuero made it 3-0 six minutes after that. Nicolas Bertolo struck in the 66th minute to make it 4-0 and Pol Fernandez pulled one back four minutes from time with a penalty kick for Atletico, but it was merely a consolation goal.

The result sees Banfield improve to three points from its opening two fixtures, while Atletico Rafaela is winless from its first two matches.

On Saturday in the Argentine top flight, Ramon Abila scored in the 37th minute to lift Huracan to a 1-0 victory over Arsenal, while Estudiantes claimed a 2-1 victory over Godoy Cruz.

Marco Ruben's last-gasp effort handed Rosario Central a 2-1 result over nine- man Tigre, while Olimpo and Racing played to a scoreless draw. Alejandro Ariel Cabral and Yamil Asad scored to lead Velez Sarsfield to a 2-1 win against Crucero.

Saturday's final fixture saw San Martin and Gimnasia LP both finish with 10 men as the clubs played to a 1-1 draw.

On Sunday, former Liverpool man Maxi Rodriguez scored to lift Newell's Old Boys to a 1-0 win over Aldosivi, while Independiente and Sarmiento played to a 1-1 stalemate. Nueva Chicago and Union finished level at 2-2.

River Plate and Quilmes played to a 2-2 draw, Colon and Argentinos Juniors finished level at 1-1, while Sunday's final match as Boca Juniors come away with a 2-0 win against Temperley thanks to goals from Juan Manuel Martinez and Jonathan Calleri.

Monday's action saw Martin Cauteruccio net the winner in San Lorenzo's 2-1 defeat of Defensa y Justicia and Lanus held to a 0-0 home draw by Belgrano.
